It contains all non-error printing varieties of Scott number 2179 Virginal Apgar. The tagged sheet stamps are perf. 11.2 x 11.1. The stamps are from the huge SECOND GREAT AMERICANS series. Grainy solid tagging comes from prephosphored coated paper. This set is a little tricky and the colors are subtle and cannot be fully seen by the image. We guarantee accurate identification, which cannot be determined by only looking at the color. Not all dealers that offer these can actually tell them apart. Twenty cents met the USPS First Class 2nd oz domestic letter rate until Feb 3, 1991 and later was the Postcard rate through the end of the millennium. Apgar was designed by Robert Anderson and first printed by Banknote Corp of America on the T/A press. Later print runs 2179b were on the new Epikos press beginning Jan. 31, 1997. This was the first Great American stamp to conform to new USPS standardized margin guidelines and Mr. Zip was eliminated along with other changes. All stamps were officially withdrawn from sale March 22, 1998 but continued to be offered years after this.
