Bb Clarinet, Buffet Crampon, Paris, France, Serial K12888, Grenadilla Wood This fine Evette & Schaeffer (E&S) Bb clarinet, made by Buffet Crampon & Co, Paris, France, is offered for use by an intermediate or professional clarinetist. Its serial number K12888 is stamped on the upper and lower joints. The K-series was manufactured during the golden age of clarinets, circa 1955-1975. The K-series are considered to be the best of the Evette and Schaeffer clarinets and is considered by many clarinetists to be nearly identical to the famed Buffet R-13. A t various times, these instruments have been referred to as Buffet-Crampon E13 models. When serial K12888 was made in 1961/1962, the Buffet-Crampon factory in Paris was manufacturing both the Evette & Schaeffer K-Series and Buffet R13 models. Buying a K-series Evette & Schaeffer Clarinet will get you a superb instrument comparable to an R13 of the same era but at an affordable price. Prices for Buffet R13s of that era begin at about $1200 and go upward! This clarinet has no discernible flaws: there are no cracks, the corks are good, the pads seal and all the linkages work as they should. This instrument has excellent intonation. The mouthpiece is by Noblett. This instrument may be played immediately in a band or orchestra. Still, it is always a good idea to have any clarinet’s keys and pads adjusted periodically by a professional repair technician. The artificial leather case for the instrument is also original and is in excellent condition except for a wear defect in the stitching of the case cover. All hinges and latches work as they should. Please inspect the photos so you can judge the condition for yourself. The seller is an Intermediate level adult player who has taken lessons from a professional clarinetist for the past seven years and has been playing in a regional clarinet trio. His age of 87 years has forced him to abandon his passion for clarinet and he is selling his instruments.
