Salvia Columbariae also commonly known as Chia, Chia Sage, Golden Chia, or Desert Chia, is an annual plant that is part of the Mint family. It has stem hairs that are generally pretty short and sparse. The oblong to ovate leaves form a basal rosette with flower spikes rising above. The flower colors range from a pale – bright blue or is purple tipped. This was once an important food for Native Americans. The seeds of this plant are edible. They can be eaten as grain, whole or ground.
