As you might already know: Vintage Fender clay dots were not actually made from clay.They were stamped-out of a hardened cellulose material called Vulcanized Fiber.For sale are sets of one dozen 1/4″ and 3/32″ vulcanized fiber “clay” dot inlays, 1/16″ thick. Exactly like the real vintage thing, these dots are untreated and naturally off-white in color, will yellow further over time, and develop a “grain” and become dirty-looking when sanded and oiled.Care has been taken to size these well. They fit snugly but can be pushed-in with just finger pressure.Testing a pair of the extra dots in some scrap rosewood first– including pilot hole depth, seating, filing, sanding, oiling, et cetera– is a fine idea.Installation: For both these top and side dots, one face is flat while the other is slightly smaller and a little rounded. The smaller, rounded faces should be used to guide the dots into the pilot holes.
