Dalton, Ga., 1861, 5¢ black (Scott 20XU1), beautiful strike at top center with manuscript “Charge E.R.H.” at top (which is why there is no town circular datestamp) on folded letter datelined “Dalton Jan 2nd 1861” (an error; should be 1862) to E. Harden in Athens Ga., written by her daughter with great content that reads, “My Dear Ma, I received yr. very affectionate letter last night & hasten to reply. I should have written to you before this but really I have had so much to attend to that every moment of my time has been occupied. IT HAS KEPT ME BUSY HIRING OUT NEGROES & hunting provisions since Mr. Harden left. However, I have succeeded admirably in getting good places & high wages.
