Hobby Master 1:48 Air Power Series HA7427 Focke-Wulf Fw 190A Diecast Model Luftwaffe 1./JG 54, White 10, Walter Nowotny, Staraya, Russia, March 1943Limited Edition 1:48 Scale Length WidthFocke-Wulf Fw 190A 7.25″ 8.5″ Walter “Nowi” Nowotny reported to JG 54 Grunherz (Green Hearts) in December 1940 as part of their Erganzungsstaffel (replacement squadron). Two months later he was transferred to 9./JG54 flying a Bf-109. On July 19, 1941 he scored his first two victories but was then shot down himself. In October 1942 Nowotny was appointed Squadron Leader of 1./JG54. In January 1943 JG54 began to re-equip with the much faster and more agile Focke-WulfFw-190. Flying more than 442 missions Nowotny accumulated 258 victories of which 255 were over the Eastern Front. Focke-Wulf Fw 190A Designed by Kurt Tank, the Fw-190A was first flown on June 1st, 1939. This small, yet ferociously-powered aircraft was fast and maneuverable and packed a fierce armament package earning it the nickname “Butcher Bird”. The wide landing gear, excellent visibility and high-altitude paddle-bladed propeller endeared it to pilots familiar with the shortcomings of its predecessor – the Messerschmitt Bf 109. Some of the Luftwaffe’s most famous fighter aces flew the Fw 190.
