Interpace Franciscan Desert Rose Creamer & Sugar TV Mark 1964-66 For consideration is this vintage earthenware creamer and sugar set manufactured by Interpace in their Franciscan Pottery line of dinnerware and made in the U.S.A. in 1966. This set is in the Desert Rose pattern which was first manufactured in the early 1940s, and the best-selling American dinnerware pattern in history. Desert Rose made its debut in 1941 and enjoyed the world’s longest period of popularity of any dinnerware pattern produced by a single company until it was discontinued in 1984. The Rose Rugosa, a rugged wild rose of poem and song, was a natural design selection. This timeless classic and highly collectible Dessert Rose pattern has embossed fully opened pink roses, golden centers, soft green leaves and thorny vines, all hand painted and enhanced on a cream background. The creamer measures 4¼ inches tall, the mouth measures 2 inches in diameter, 4½ inches from spout to handle and the base measures 2¼ inches in diameter. It will hold 8 ounces (1 Cup) of liquid. The sugar bowl measures 3 1/8 inches tall, the mouth measures 2 5/8 inches in diameter, 5½ inches across from handle to handle and the base measures 2¼ inches in diameter. I love the dark green twisted branch handles on this set! Both are in excellent vintage condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, repairs, scratches, discoloration or crazing noted. NOTE: In 1934, Gladding, McBean & Company began the manufacture of dinnerware and art ware under the trade name Franciscan Ware in their Los Angeles Glendale plant. The trade name was for the Franciscan friars who established missions throughout California in the 18th and 19th centuries. In 1962, Gladding, McBean merged with Lock Pipe and Joint Company. The new company International Pipe and Ceramics Corporation was later renamed Interpace derived from International Pipe and Ceramics. NOTE: Franciscan Backstamp: 1964 to 1966 (note the “®” and “©” are in the top section with one on each side of the backstamp). The ink of the stamp is brown and collectors have nicknamed it the “TV” or “TV screen” mark.“ The decorator number is followed by the year the item was manufactured.
