eBay Up for sale is a late 1800’s Knights Templar leather sword case of Charles Smith of Troy NY from the Apollo Commandery No. 15 of the Knights Templar. I have had this piece for some time now, but have shifted my focus to CW blades and earlier…so this is the last of the Masonic items left. The leather has some beautiful tooling as shown in the pics. The leather overal;l; is still supple and flexible. The dark areas are the results of oil on the sword to prevent rust and have soaked into the leather over the years…the leather in those areas is siff. But might benefit from some Pecard’s or other form of leather treatment……I will leave that to the next caretaker. The handle hardware are intact….which is sometimes hard to find. And the snaps still have their finish and not all rubbed off. There are only a couple areas worth mentioning…as shown in the pics. One area of slight stitching deparation, but it has not become an issue as of yet and possibly can bve repaird or even carefully glued back together to prevent it from getting worse. And an area wheere some flexing in the stiffer oil stiffened areas that has started to cause a break in the leather. Again only an issue if you bend the cover at that point…which a caring collector will not….of course. There is also some remnants of the dealer’s tag inside the top flap…as shown in the pics The cover is 36 1/2″ long, 7″ wide at the top, 3 3/4″ at the top of the “blade” area and 2 7/8″ near the bottom tip.
