Typed letter signed “Richard Nixon”, personal stationery from San Clemente, California, December 22, 1975, with handwritten salutation “Dear Mr. Manning”, in full:As I look back over the past year, and forward to America’s Bicentennial Year, I am reminded of our good fortune in being part of a community where we have the privilege of such a loyal and supportive friendship as yours.It means a great deal to our family, and I wanted you to know of our grateful appreciation.With handwritten postscript, also signed with Nixon’s initials: “Mrs. Nixon joins me in sending our best wishes for Christmas and New Year.” Accompanied by original mailing envelope. Stanford Manning was publisher of the Carlsbad Journal and later of the San Clemente Daily Sun. Manning was one of a few journalists invited to greet Nixon at San Clemente the day he resigned as President. Mailing folds. Very dark and bold signature and writing.
