Here you see a set of four resistors, each inside a PL259 plug for the purpose of tattling on your SWR meter. Most SWR meters do not have a way to calibrate the accuracy of a SWR reading. These four resistor values include 24 ohms, to see if your meter accurately shows a two-to-one mismatch. A 50-ohm that should show one-to-one, a 100 ohm for two-to-one above 50 ohms, and a 150 ohm for three-to-one SWR. This one can also be used to calibrate the antenna warning light found on some mobile CB transceivers. The resistors are rated at 5 Watts, so a 4-Watt carrier from the radio won’t hurt it in the time it takes to select “Cal”, turn the knob, switch to “SWR” and read the meter. They are not all-day dummy loads, but should withstand a 4 Watt carrier longer than you’ll need to find out if your meter is lying to you. Yes, a fancier frequency-compensated bidirectional RF wattmeter will have a compensation trimmer capacitor that sets the meter for minimum reflected reading at 50 ohms. This set of loads is for the simpler SWR meters commonly used with a CB transceiver. Yes, you could save a bundle by purchasing the resistors from Mouser or Newark and installing them each in a PL259. Feel free. What we are selling here is convenience, not just parts. Why doesn’t this set include a 16 ohm version, to read three-to-one below 50 ohms? I worry about people damaging fragile IRF520 MOSFET final transistors. They become strained at low impedances.
