Roald Engelbregt Amundsen [1872 1928] was a Norwegian explorer and a key figure during the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration. His first polar exploration occurred in 1897 when he joined the Belgian Antarctic Expedition at the age of 25. Amundsen would later go on to successfully traverse the Northwest Passage [1903], the first to lead an expedition and explorer the South Pole [1911] and navigate the North Pole and Northeast Passage. On June 18, 1928, Amundsen disappeared during a rescue mission in the Arctic, his remains were never recovered. Listed for auction is an exceedingly rare photograph signed by Ronald Engelbregt Amundsen. The image is of a seaplane being loaded aboard a ship and is bodily signed ”Ronald Amundsen” in green fountain pen. The autograph has been authenticated by PSA Authentication and encapsulated in a plastic holder. The photograph is b/w, measures 10.00 x 8.00 inches with corner chips, some trivial surface creases otherwise in fine condition. The photograph is also stamped on the verso, International Newsreel Corp. The autograph of Roald E. Amundsen in any format is quite rare to obtain, this is an outstanding example signed on a unique image, authenticated and ideal for display.
