This precious and very unique box was gifted to me in 2000 and has been displayed inside a glass curio case without ever having been used to store anything. We are downsizing and I hope that someone else can appreciate the incredible craftsmanship that went into making this one-of-a-kind handmade hinged wood box. Back in 2000 when it was crafted, the boutique in San Francisco originally charged $85 for it. Made of 3 types of wood (as marked on the bottom of the box), the combination of maple, burl and ebony is simply stunning. The attention to detail, the precision of the inlay, the polish of the wood, the mixed textures of the wood is what makes this piece so special. While the box is signed by the artist on the bottom along with the date it was made, I’m unable to read his/her signature. When closed, the box measures 6.25″ long … 4.25″ wide … and has a height of 2.5″. When opened, the height is 5.5′. The interior storage area of the open box is lined in black suede-like material and measures 5.25″ long and 3.25″ wide. It’s perfect for keeping special pieces of jewelry bedside or other small precious objects. Pictures cannot do justice to the magnificent beauty of this skillfully crafted object.
